Is your Brain Male or Female?

Brain - emotional intelligence

Mmm....dilemma, should I watch the final episode of Cilla on ITV, or BBC's Horizon programme: Is your Brain Male or Female? Am I in fact playing out my own reflection of these differences? Am I already unconsciously thinking and therefore showing female side, in which case should I 'flex' into my male side,  After all, according to previous theories, doesn't my driven, detached male side crave information and facts, evidence etc? In the end I drop my emotional attachment of Cilla's rise to fame, after all, I can catch up with Cilla anytime. Whether these contradictory gender differences are true is based on my own experience of the last few minutes, I'm worn out and I haven't even started watching the programme!

Depression - A story shared

My blog post today has not been written by me, but by a friend of mine. Remember how in my last blog, I invited you to share your experiences? Well, Alex wrote to me sharing how 'depression' has affected his life, and the strategies that he uses to get through when the "dark clouds are gathering". Here's Alex's story......

I first began my experiences with mental illness when I was around seven or eight years old. I was always seen as being pleasant, creative and somewhat up-tight. My (now deceased) father was a lovely, very pleasant man. I have always had a much more strained relationship with my Mother, for many reasons.

Depression- Some strategies that support my journey.

Firstly, my apologies for the absence of a blog last week. Of course I could give my reasons for this, but as I tell my clients a 'reason' will only focus the brain on the instruction to keep you 'stuck' rather than building a strategy to move you forward.
With that in mind it got me thinking more about strategies and how they support even the simplest aspects of our live. For instance, when you wake up in the morning a strategy is there, a sequence of actions: Open eyes, throw back the covers, lift one leg out, then the other, groan, scratch....um your head, walk towards loo, etc. We have another strategy at work, the fire alarm sounds and instantly we go into an automatic response: quickly grab bag and mobile, leave anything else, walk briskly to the exit, only use the stairs, congregate in the car park, shout out name when called upon. By now I'm sure you get my drift.
